Q. What type of organizations look good on a college application? -member of Elks Lodge? -Mensa? -Daughtes of the American Revolution? I need to join three or so, and was wondering what was out there? Also what kind of things are considered academic honors? National language exams, honor roll??? Thanks!

A. it is best to join organizations that you are interested in. colleges like to see that you actually care about the things you are involved in. so if you like playing a sport, join a team. if you enjoy volunteering, join a volunteer organization. it is best to show commitment and passion toward an activity, rather than worry what looks best. it's also good if you take a leadership role in an organization that you're involved in because that shows more dedication and responsibility.

Q. How community based organization can be integrated into an umbrella organization?We are living in small town and intend to form a coalition of different CBOs.Our town has sanitation problem,we want to combine the efforts of different organizations and solve the problem collectively.Is there any article,book or web site available for this particular purpose?

A. It is a tough thing to do. Some members of our community tried that and it did not work. The different org. did not want to come under the umbrella because of differences in each group's Mission Statement. The umbrella group was attempting to coordinate the donations of time and money to ensure better results. I've read that there are 12 levels of government that have almost total control over the operations of our government. What organizations are assisting in cleaning up the animals affected by the Gulf Coast oil leak?

A. Rotary has a strong global network of volunteers, so I would definitely check out to your local Rotary Club in addition to the other programs mentioned. If your high school has an Interact Club, that would be a way meet them as well. I don't think it would be a problem to go out your senior year (even though you may miss graduation), but since our students usually go out in their junior year of high school or after graduation, I would check with your school and your local Rotary District's rules to determine if you can go out your senior year. Q. What are some trustworthy non profit organizations that you know for sure are worth donating money to and that will use 100% of the donations toward the cause of protecting animals? I have to apply to the professional phase of pharmacy school this fall (so im already in college) and i am just looking for some ideas on different activities and organizations that might look good to put on the application. if anyone has had any success with a certain activity or organization it would be greatly appreciated! A. How about you help someone on kiva.org? These people are trying to improve their situation for themselves and their families in the 3rd World by starting small local projects and businesses. You can help them directly by lending them money, interest free. The risk is actually very low as about 95% of the money is paid back. When you get it back, you help someone else! A. How about you help someone on kiva.org? These people are trying to improve their situation for themselves and their families in the 3rd World by starting small local projects and businesses. You can help them directly by lending them money, interest free. The risk is actually very low as about 95% of the money is paid back. When you get it back, you help someone else! EDIT: Thanks for clearing that up, RoofingPrincess! Turns out Kiva doesn't charge interest, but Kiva actually deals with microfinance partners on the field and these partners do charge various rates.
