Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo, resulting in or caused by its death. An abortion can occur spontaneously due to complications during pregnancy or can be induced, in humans and other species. In the context of human pregnancies, an abortion induced to preserve the health of the gravida (pregnant female) is termed a therapeutic abortion, while an abortion induced for any other reason is termed an elective abortion. The term abortion most commonly refers to the induced abortion of a human pregnancy, while spontaneous abortions are usually termed miscarriages.

Abortion has a long history and has been induced by various methods including herbal abortifacients, the use of sharpened tools, physical trauma and other traditional methods. Contemporary medicine utilizes medications and surgical procedures to induce abortion. The legality, prevalence, and cultural views on abortion vary substantially around the world. In many parts of the world there is prominent and divisive public controversy over the ethical and legal issues of abortion. Abortion and abortion-related issues feature prominently in the national politics in many nations, often involving the opposing "pro-life" and "pro-choice" worldwide social movements. Incidence of abortion has declined worldwide, as access to family planning education and contraceptive services has increased. Abortion incidence in the United States declined 8% from 1996 to 2003.

ABORTION................. ........?
Q. When debating against abortion, what argument could you use when the opponent says illegal abortion rates will just increase and create unsafe conditions?
Asked by lexi - Tue Jun 2 16:31:08 2009 - - 14 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Agree with their first point about illegal abortion rates increasing, since if abortion was illegal then ALL abortions would be illegal. If you made something illegal that is currently mostly legal, of course the number of illegal cases of it is going to increase! You could then say something about it shouldn't be legal just to make things safer for the women. You could make a comparison with drugs. It'd be like saying we should legalise drugs to make it safer for the drug users (it would, as then drugs would be regulated).

Is abortion a important topic to you when voting for president?
Q. I take into consideration many things when voting. Especially my beliefs, morals and financial state. If it questions my morals, it puts me into check. I can make a better decision. Obama is for abortion, apparently 3rd trimester??? From what I understand. I am Catholic and highly against it. I voted for McCain due to that factor. What do you think?

A. I think the President doesn't have as much say in the matter as people think, but I do believe in personal freedom, and that is a sort of touchstone issue. If you don't believe in abortion, don't have one.

What is your opinion on abortion and teen pregnancy?
Q. I am doing a study for school on Abortion and teenage pregnancy. Can you tell me your opinion on these topics? Also answer these questions plz! 1.What do you think a teen should do about being pregnant? 2. Why do you think your opinion on abortion is correct and why should abortion be legal/illegal? Thanks!

A. What a teen should do about being pregnant is be educated, prevention is worth so much! Hopefully, sex education will improve (no more abstinence only) so that less will find themselves pregnant due to ignorance. 1. She should really sit down and think about what would be right for her. Two futures are at stake, she needs to consider if she can emotionally, physically, mentally, and financially support a pregnancy. If yes, she should consider if she wants to put it up for adoption or keep it, keeping the good of everyone in mind. She should talk to a doctor and hopefully an adult she can trust, and hopefully a supportive boyfriend. But everything doesn't always go that way. 2. Abortion should always be an available option. … [cont.]
