A. A "nor'easter" is a very strong storm that produces strong winds and heavy snows in New England and inland areas of other northeastern states. The term was adopted a long time ago before modern meteorology and is based on the observations of people in New England that these powerful storms always had the wind blowing from the northeast. It has nothing to do with which way the storm is headed. People back then didn't know which way storms were moving, just which way the wind was blowing. The reason the wind is blowing from the northeast in these storms is because the centers of strong storms like this are always near or just off the coast. The wind blows counter-clockwise around storms in the northern hemisphere, so the land areas… [cont.]
